A Return, Of Sorts

 Hello readers,

 

It certainly has been awhile, hasn't it?

 

What I intended as a short break has become something of a hiatus. Alas!

 

Life continued, of course, but this blog has been in the back on my mind. What do I want to do with it, I asked myself, as April 2022 got smaller in the rear-view mirror. I worked quite hard on it, I don't want all that effort to just vanish. But...

 

But, indeed. But, I was working. But, I have to move house soon. But, the style of my reviews felt unsatisfying. 

 

But, I really want to keep writing about the books I'm reading.

 

I'm not built for tik tok, readers. Short form video content is not my cup of tea to make. I grew up on Monty Python sketches; my joke formatting is deeply antiquated. Gentlemen adventurers are trying to steal it for their curio cabinets. I can only communicate in impact font memes. You've seen the early graphics on this blog, reader. No, I'd much prefer to stay text-based. It's slower and quieter here.

 

Here is the plan, reader: I'm going to change my how I rate and review books. I'm also not going to review every book I read. Shocking, I know. I could make a very grand speech about how we should resist the content-ification of every aspect of our lives, but the reality is I read too many books. Taking the time to form cogent and interesting thoughts about each one is time-consuming. I want them to be good, reader. I want to give you my finest blog posts.

There is, tragically, only so much time in each day. However, now that I'm back in the realms of full-time freelance writing, I have a little more of it to spend on this project.  

My next post will (ideally) focus on what I read in January. I hope to see you then.
